There are only about 26,000 to 43,000 adult female leather-backs worldwide. It is so sad because 3 out of 4 of these reasons are due to humans. The last reason could be anything.
Conservation People are trying to conserve this majestic animals. One way is a project called Save Our Leather-backs Operation (S.O.L.O). Their potential is to: 1. To educate the public about the turtle and explain why it is going extinct so fast; 2. To inform as many people as possible of this tragedy so that more people may be informed and join in to help reverse this extinction danger ; and, 3. To stop population decline from the largest leather-back turtle nesting beaches in the Pacific, Iran Jaya, Indonesia, and to increase the number of hatchlings that hatch, make it to the sea, and return to the nest.
